The dharmawheel or dharmacakra is a Buddhist symbol, of hinduistic origin. This symbol represents a wheel with 8 spokes.
The 8 spokes represent the 8-fold path to enlightenment in Buddhism. The symbol was first used in during the era of buddhist king Asokah. This king or emperor reigned about 250 years before Christ and is considered one of India's greatest leaders. The circle in the symbol represents perfection of the dharmateachings.
